Make Music Day | Make Music

Every June 21, streets, squares, schools and windows around the world fill with music. In more than 2,000 cities around the world, amateur and professional musicians play freely, without tickets, without a closed stage. In Brazil, the movement has been coordinated by ANAFIMA since 2017. The global movement is organised by the Make Music Alliance, headquartered in New York.

ANAFIMA was the organisation that brought Make Music Day to Brazil in 2017. Since then, the event has been realised with many hands — regional coordinators, educators, musicians, city halls and people who simply love music. ANAFIMA provides the support, articulation and structure so that the message of the importance of making music continues to expand throughout the country.

We believe that making music is an essential human act. No matter the level, the instrument or the style — what matters is that music happens.

Our Mission

To make music happen in more places, with more people, for free and openly — every year, throughout Brazil.

Free and Open

All events are free and open to the public, without economic or social barriers.

Music Education

We foster musical practice in schools, conservatories and community spaces.

A Living Ecosystem

We connect those who make, those who teach and those who play — strengthening music as part of public life.

The hands behind June 21.

The local coordination of Make Music Day | Make Music takes place in partnership with more than 30 volunteer coordinators spread across Brazil — musicians, educators, cultural producers and public agents who donate their time and energy so that the movement exists, for free, in each city. Their work is carried out under the terms of Brazilian voluntary work legislation, with no employment, partnership or commercial ties to ANAFIMA.
